Test century for former player Justin Greaves

Sefton Park Cricket Club

Everyone at Croxteth Drive would like to send congratulations to former Sefton Park player Justin Greaves who scored his maiden Test century for the West Indies in their recent victory over Bangladesh. Justin's first-ever Test century in just his third Test match helped the West Indies set a formidable 450-9 in their first innings against Bangladesh. His partnership with Kemar Roach, added 140 runs for the eighth wicket.

Barbados-born Justin, then aged 20, played for Sefton Park CC in 2013, scoring 109 and taking 4–32 on debut against Old Xaverians and finishing with 742 runs at 67.45 and 31 wickets at 15.00 in 18 league games as Sefton convincingly won the Second Division.

Justin has been rewarded for his recent form with a call up to the latest West Indies ODI squad for the three-match series against Bangladesh. "Greaves is capable of batting anywhere in the top six and brings that genuine all-round ability to the squad, which is welcomed at this stage," said West Indies head coach Daren Sammy.

Justin becomes the third former Sefton Park player to score a Test century. His fellow Bajan Shane Dowrich spent the 2012 season playing for Sefton Park, scoring two centuries as he totalled 733 league runs at an average of 52.35, before making 35 Test appearances for the West Indies and scoring three centuries, including a memorable 119 not out against England.

Brendan Taylor played for Sefton Park in 2006 before becoming one of Zimbabwe's finest Test batters and captaining his country. He scored six Test centuries in total.

Pakistani cricketer Saleem Elahi appeared for Sefton Park in the 2002 season. He would go on to play in 13 Test matches for Pakistan but was more effective as a white ball player, making 48 appearances for his country in ODIs and scoring four centuries.
