Former Sefton Park player Jomel Warrican breaks records in Pakistan

Sefton Park's former overseas player Jomel Warrican enjoyed a record-breaking Test match in Multan as West Indies took on Pakistan.

Warrican, who played for Sefton Park in 2011, became the first Windies bowler to take a five-wicket haul on Pakistani soil since 1959, surpassing Sonny Ramadhin’s 66-year-old record of 4/25, when he claimed 7 wickets for 32 runs in the host's second innings.

Having run out Shan Masood early in the innings, Warrican also ran out Khurram Shahzad as well, making it nine dismissals out of nine where he had played a role.

Warrican's 7-32, were the best figures by a touring spinner in Pakistan in men’s Test cricket. He went past Phil Edmonds’s 7-66 at Karachi in 1977-78. Across bowling styles, Warrican’s figures are the third-best among visiting bowlers in Pakistan and the best since Ravi Ratnayeke’s 8-83 in 1985-86.

Warrican’s match figures of 10-101 are the fifth ten-wicket haul by overseas bowlers in Pakistan. Only Nick Cook (11-83) and Chris Pringle (11-152) have better figures.

Warrican, 31, enjoyed a successful season for Sefton back in 2011, taking 51 wickets at 17.37 and scoring 373 runs.
