Saturday 1st September...Century for Dan Coonan in Seconds as Firsts draw at Birkenhead Park

The First XI travelled to Birkenhead Park, won the toss and decided to bat first. Early wickets left Sefton on 68 for 4, then followed a stand of 84 between Greg Harvey (54) and Neil Durand who went on to score 55. A valuable 31 not out by Rob Houghton enable Sefton to declare on 232 for 7 in 47 overs.

Three quick wickets by Daniel Kelly gave Sefton hope of a quick victory but a stand 45 in 17 overs for the next wicket was followed by the rest of the team surviving once the chance of victory had gone. Birkenhead finished on 172 for 8 in 53 overs as the game was drawn. Daniel Kelly finished with 3 for 24 and Rob Houghton 3 for 29.

The Second XI welcomed New Brighton to Sefton Park with the visitors fighting relegation. Sefton won the toss and batted first. The highlight of their innings was a century by Dan Coonan (125) with featured 26 fours. He was assisted by Rob Supria (31) and Mark Chappell (37 not out) in their declared total of 237 for 5 in 45 overs.

In reply, Sefton knew that New Brighton needed to win and were going to chase the total, this they did and reached 214 in 39 overs when they were all out. Mark Chappell bowled throughout the innings and 3 for 100 in 19 overs, Sean Kirk finished with 4 for 46

The Third XI played Birkenhead Park's Third XI. They batted first and declared on 252 for 7 in 44 overs with in form Paul Morris scoring 92, Phil Birch 49 and Matt Child 49 not out. In reply Birkenhead Park reached 190 for 7 as the game was drawn, Paul Sterling finished with 3 for 40 and his son Jack 2 for 35.

The Fourth XI, fighting relegation, met Birchfield Park who are looking to win the league on the Lower Ground. Birchfield batted first and declared on 226 for 4 in 43 overs. Terry Macklin finished with 2 for 53. Sefton struggled in reply, Mike Lowe scored 41, Charles Daniels 21 and James Daniels 35. A heroic effort from the tail with Naj Ahmed scoring 30 including 18 off one over and 28 from Robin Brown who scored 28 enabled them to reach 195 in 48 overs.
