Sunday 19th August...Second XI defeated in Chester Cup Final

The Second XI played a strong Ormskirk side in the final of the Chester Cup. Ormskirk won the toss and decided to bat first and put on an opening stand of 51. They put on 67 for the second wicket but then Mark Chappell came into the attack and took three wickets to reduce them to 133 for 4. This was probably as good as it got for Sefton as the next wicket fell at 203 and they went on to finish with 243 for 8 in their 45 overs. Mark Chappell took 3 for 43, Huzaifa Zubair 2 for 53 and Rory McInness-Gibbons 2 for 45. In reply, Sefton lost Connor Melia with 4 on the board but then a stand of 64 between Ben Percival (26) and Luke Connolly (38) put them in a stronger position before wickets fell quickly and they soon found themselves on 105 for 9. However a stand of 38 for the last wicket between Muhammad Zahid (20) and Huzaifa Zubair (11 not out) gave the final score some respectability. They were dismissed for 143 in 36.1 overs.
