Saurday 18th August...Home draw with Liverpool

The First XI welcomed local rivals Liverpool to Sefton Park. Liverpool won the toss and asked Sefton to bat first. After losing opener Richie Forsyth with the score on 28, Ben Percival (28) and Sean Vandome (63) put on 67 for the second wicket before both fell within two runs of each other. After the fall of Jermain Davis for 14, Scott Aitchison joined Greg Harvey in the middle and they put on 120 for the fifth wicket before Greg fell for 50. Scott went on to reach 62 not out when Sefton declared on 240 for 5 in 64.3 overs.

In reply, Liverpool got off to a good start, putting on 62 for the first wicket but then four quick wickets fell and Liverpool were on 64 for 4. Liverpool continued the chase but as we got into the last 20 overs they gave up the chase and hung on for a draw, not even chasing an extra bonus point, finishing on 158 for 8 in 44 overs.

The Second XI travelled to Bootle, won the toss and decided to bat first. Harry Deveney scored 73, Luke Connolly 43, Andy Aitchison 27, Mark Chappell 27 not out and Richie Conlan 24 not out as they declared on 218 for 5 in 45 overs. The normally difficult task of bowling Bootle out did not prove a problem this time as Mark Chappell took 3 for 46, Joe Francis 2 for 34 and Austin Ventre 2 for 33 as they were dismissed for 165.

The Third travelled to Crosby to play Northern's GK XI. Sefton batted first and the highlight of their innings was 110 from Paul Morris. as they declared on 226 for 6. Northern batted for 50 overs in reply but the game was drawn as they finished on 188 for 6 with three wickets apiece for Harvey Shields (3 for 40) and Tim Gray (3 for 50)

The Fourth XI played the other Northern Third XI (SK XI) on the Lower Ground. Sefton batted first and scored 182 for 6 in 50 overs. John Fretwell was on 49 not out when they declared, Charlie Daniels scored 38, Harry Wright 31 and James Daniels 23. Northern passed the Sefton total with 7 wickets down, it was good to see Robin Brown playing again, he finished on 3 for 32 and John Fretwell finished with 3 for 58.
