Second XI win Chrysalis Cup

The Second XI succeeded on Finals Day in the Chrysalis Cup. The T20 competition for second XI's

In the semi-final, they played Rainhill. Sefton won the toss and asked Rainhill to bat first. Connor Melia took 3 for 18 and John Fretwell 3 for 22 as Rainhill reached 121 for 8 in their 20 overs.

Sefton required just 13.4 overs to reach the total with openers Dan Coonan (52) and Richie Conlan (47 not out) putting on 98 for the first an eight wicket win.

The Final proved more difficult against a strong Southport and Birkdale side. Southport decided to bat first and made 138 for 8 with Mark Chappell taking 3 for 26 and Muhammad Zahid 2 for 19.

In reply Sefton passed the Southport total with 5 wickets down half way through the 19th over. Top scorers were Luke Connolly with 35, Dan Coonan 28 and Rory McInness-Gibbons 24.

So there is a trophy in the cabinet after a few years and congratulations to all concerned.

Next week the First XI welcome Sutton to Sefton Park in the semi of the Ray Tyler Cup
