Saturday 1st July....Five Wins!!

Probably for the first time in club history, all five Sefton Park teams won.

The First XI travelled to Newton le Willows and after winning the toss put the home side in on a difficult wicket. After Shakeem Clarke made the initial breakthrough, Daniel Kelly took the next four batsmen for 37 run in 15 overs. Rob Houghton then took the next four, finishing with 4 for 31, Joe Francis took the last wicket as Newton le Willows were bowled out for 110 in 38. Batting did not prove easy in Sefton's reply but they managed to reach 86 for 7 thanks to 33 from Dave Hort and 24 from Neil Durand. With the result in the balance Shakeem Clark joined Rob Houghton in the middle and his 20 not out in 19 balls enabled Sefton to pass the visitors total without further loss.

We have now reached the half way point of the season as Sefton move into sixth place in the table.

The Second XI played Wigan at home. The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first but they offered very little resistance to the Sefton bowling attack. They were dismissed for 87 with Huzaifa Zubair taking 4 for 6, Muhammad Zahid 2 for 14 and Andy Foulder 2 for 11. Sefton reply was quite remarkable, with skipper Richie Conlan scoring 66 not out, his fifty came in 17 balls with only one "dot ball". Dan Coonan scored 17 not out at the other end and Sefton passed the Wigan total without losing a wicket in 8 overs. The reply lasted half an hour.

The CD XI played Northern's JS XI on the Lower Ground. Northern batted first and looked like building up a score of over 200 but collapsed to 137 all out in 37.5 overs. The bowler who did the damage was Jamie Turner who took 6 for 12 in 5.5 overs, Freddy Frost took 3 for 26. Sefton' reply was slow at first and the score reached 46 for 4 but Mike Lowe joined Michael Hargreaves in the middle and they put on 86 for the fifth wicket when Mike Lowe was out for 22. Michael Hargreaves finished on 65 not out as Sefton won by 5 wickets in 38.5 overs.
