Saturday 22nd April....Two draws to start the season

The First XI travelled to Fleetwood Hesketh for the first game of the season. The home side won the toss and asked Sefton to bat first. Sean Vandome scored 41 to give them a good start but after a number of players made starts but did not take them further best of which was Neil Durand with 24, Sefton found themselves at 126 for 6. Rickie Martin (47) and Daniel Kelly then put on 79 for the seventh wicket and enabled them to declare on 220 for 8 in 55 overs with Daniel Kelly finishing on 40 not out. This was their highest league score for nearly two years.

In reply Sefton claimed two quick wickets to make the score 18 for 2 but a stand of 97 for the third wicket put the home side in a strong position. Rob Houghton then took 2 for 22 and slowed Fleetwood Hesketh's run rate down as they finished on 167 for 7 in 50 overs. Sefton had 44 balls to take the last three wickets.

The Second XI welcomed Southport and Birkdale to Sefton Park. Sefton batted first and were dismissed for 184 in 40 overs with skipper Richie Conlan top scoring with 74. Rob Supria (27) and Michael Row (22) were next highest. Southport's reply started fairly quickly but soon faded and they finished on 114 for 9 in 46 overs with Sefton having three balls to take the last wicket. Joe Francis was the pick of the bowlers taking 6 for 23 in 14 overs.
