Saturday 2nd July....Home draw with Fleetwood Hesketh

The First XI played Fleetwood Hesketh in the first of three consecutive home games. Sefton won the toss and decided to bat first. At 44 for 5, they looked like they may not score 100 but 32 for the sixth wicket and then a stand of 77 between Peter Kelly (17) and Jameel Stuart took them to 143 for 7 but when Jameel was out for 72 the last couple of wickets fell quickly and they were all out for 147 in the 57th over.

The total made it look like there was interesting game ahead but the visitors lost 2 quick wickets with only 4 runs on the board. They recovered to 44 for 3 but then collapsed to 47 for 6. From this point, defence was the order of the day and they hung on to finish on 69 for 9 in 53 overs, 23 of which were bowled in the last over. Top bowlers were Rob Houghton with 5 for 22, Peter Kelly 2 for 8 and Daniel Kelly who took the first two wickets for 9 runs.
