Saturday 14th May....Defeat by Maghull

Maghull visited Sefton Park still looking for their first win. Sefton won the toss and decided to bat first and after losing the wicket of David Hort to the second ball of the day, then put on 60 for the second wicket. After Richie Forsyth was out for 19 wickets fell steadily with just James Baird staying in and when he was dismissed for 68 as the eighth victim the end was near and they were all out for 144 in 43.2 overs.

In reply, Sefton soon brought on the spinners but Maghull put on 92 before the third wicket fell. The fifth, sixth and seventh wickets all fell on 132 and hopes were raised for a victory but only one more wicket fell on 135 as Maghull reached the required total with eight wickets down. Pick of the Sefton bowlers were Rob Houghton with 4 for 67 and Peter Kelly with 3 for 43.

The Second XI game was one of two games that fell into the "not a lot you can say about this" category. They travelled to Bootle where the home team won the toss and batted first going on to declare on 212 for 1 in 37.5 overs with Matt Garnett taking the one wicket. Dan Coonan with 13 was the only Sefton player to reach double figures as they were dismissed for 45 in 19.1 overs in their reply.

The Third XI played Wallasey's Thirds on the Lower Ground. Wallasey batted first and were dismissed for 105 with Tim Gray taking 6 for 15, Joe Taylor 2 for 5 and John Fretwell 2 for 29. Sefton lost 4 wickets for 40 But Pete Lancaster with 46 not out and Jamie Turner with 25 not out steered them to victory.

The Fourth XI travelled to Birchfield Park to play their First XI. The home side won the toss and asked Sefton to bat first. Only Paddy Kendall with 10 reached double figures as they became the second Sefton side to be dismissed for 45. Birchfield Park lost two wickets in reaching the total, one for Chris Mitchell and a run out.

The Fifth XI played Birchfield Park's Seconds at the Liverpool College ground. Sefton won the toss and asked Birchfield to bat first. Chris Smart took 5 for 3, and Naj Ahmed 4 for 24 to dismiss the away side for 48 in 19.4 overs. Awais Khokhar scored 37 not out and Alan Fretwell 9 not out as Sefton reached 50 for 2 on 8.3 overs.
