Saturday 20th August...Home draw with Orrell Red Triangle

The First XI entertained Orrell Red Triangle at Sefton Park. The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first. Sefton were in a strong position with Orrell at 122 for 7 but they recovered to declare on 206 for 9 in 68 overs. Jomel Warrican took 3 for 63 and Phil Calrow 3 for 47. In reply, Sean Vandome scored 48 but Chris Bellis with 15 was the only other batsman to reach double figures. The most remarkable innings of the day was from Luke Connolly who, on his first team debut, batted for 63 minutes and faced 70 balls finishing on 2 not out. He and Peter Kelly blocked out the last 28 balls as Sefton finished on 87 for 9 in 46 overs.

The Second XI travelled to Northop Hall, won the toss and decided to bat first. Jason Marsh (75), Iain Squires (50) and Phil Eastham (50) were the top scorers in their total of 206 for 6 declared in 44.3 overs. Northop Hall reached the required total for the loss of 5 wickets in the 41st over. Mark Chappell took 3 for 49 and Phil Eastham 2 for 12.

The Third XI played Northern's Thirds on the Lower Ground. The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first, going on to declare on 177 for 7 in 41 overs. Matt Garnett took 2 for 5, John Fretwell 2 for 52 and Phil McEvoy 2 for 46. Sefton made 134 in reply with George Lee scoring 48 and Iwan Williams 28.

The Fourth XI travelled to New Brighton to play their SR XI. Sefton were asked to bat first and were dismissed for 81 in 29 overs. It took New Brighton 21 overs to reach the total for the loss of 4 wickets with Andy Crossley taking 2 for 18.

The poor results continued with the Fifth XI's visit to Caldy to play their Fourth XI. Asked to bat first, they were dismissed for 63 in 25 overs with Julian Taylor scoring 20 and Vish Singh 22. Julian took 2 for 20 as the home side lost 3 wickets as they reached to total in 13 overs.


Sunday 21st August...Defeat in Chester Cup

The last chance of a Sefton Park side winning a cup competition disappeared as the Second XI suffered a 10 wicket defeat at New Brighton. Asked to bat first, they were dismissed for 187 in 40.1 overs, Luke Connolly scored 63, Paul Eastham 23, Andy Foulder 22 and Iain Squires 21. New Brighton achieved the total, without loss, in the 35th over.

The Sunday XI achieved Sefton Park's first win of the weekend in their home game against Ainsdale's fourths. The visitors won the toss, asked Sefton to bat and saw them go on to score 201 for 4 in 41 overs. Abdul Rehman (56), Ashish Girhay (66) and Dave White (50 not out) were the top scorers. In reply Ainsdale were dismissed for 67 in the 27th over., Matt Mann took 3 for 22, Ian Kelly 3 for 3 and Terry Macklin 2 for 20. The result means that they still have an outside chance of promotion.
